Crossing Borders, Uniting Rhythms

Crossing Borders, Uniting Rhythms: English Pen and Arts Canteen present an evening of spoken word and music with a focus on freedom of expression in issues around identity, art, music and free speech. The line-up includes: Maya Youssef (virtuoso Syrian kanun player), Amira Kheir (Sudanese-Italian singer whose music is a mix of traditional Sudanese and experimental Jazz), Somaya (who is originally from Iran and who sings to Jazz arrangements with the tombak), Elaha Soroor (born to Afghan parents in Iran, she writes and performs her own songs), Nadya Shanab (singer-songwriter from Egypt), Juliana Yazbeck (of Lebanese heritage that has influenced her musical style and political lyrics) and Fajr Tamimi MC (poet and writer from Palestine). Taking place as part of the 'Crossing Borders' day event on 5 December, 2015 at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA.
