Dhafer Youssef + Ambrose Akinmusire: From a long line of muezzins in his native Tunisia, Dhafer Youssef’s mastery of vocal performance and his expressive use of the oud lies deep within his heritage. Sharing some common ground sonically with European Jazz peers like Bugge Wesseltoft, Arve Henriksen and Eivind Aarset, albeit with a profoundly Middle-Eastern lean to it, he creates entrancing, mystical Jazz, centred around his incredible vocal range and instrumental virtuosity. He is set to perform music from his extensive back catalogue and new material from his upcoming album. A guest musician on Youssef's new work and a prolific collaborator who has worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Esperanza Spalding, Roberts Glasper and others, Ambrose Akinmusire is massively talented both as trumpeter and composer. Taking place as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival on 19 November, 2016 at the Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS.
