Rough Stage: London Premiere

Rough Stage (London Premiere): Directed by Toomas Järvet, 'Rough Stage' follows the story of Maher, a Palestinian man with a dream. An electrical engineer by trade, in his heart he’s a dancer and wants to put on the first modern dance production at the cultural centre in Ramallah. The problem is that those around him view this art form with incomprehension and disapproval; and, to make matters worse, the dance tackles the subject of freedom, a particularly risky subject for a former political prisoner. With his parents also bewildered and his brother believing that the country simply isn't ready for such an abstract art, one views his perseverance and passion as he rehearses with four others and attempting to win his family’s support. Hosted by the Frontline Club in collaboration with the London Middle East Institute (LMEI) at SOAS, it will be taking place on 25 February, 2017 and to be followed by a Q+A with Järvet at the Brunei Gallery, Lecture Theatre, Thornhaugh St, London WC1H 0XG.
