The London-based Arab British Centre (ABC) has just opened up a fun challenge by inviting everyone - from anywhere around the world - to submit potential new designs for its highly circulated Centre postcards.
Any budding or established artist, sketcher, graphic designer, photographer or creative other is welcome to apply before the deadline of 31 May, 2014; after which two top winners will be announced. Their individual work will feature on a new postcard that will further be used for up to two years by the Centre and be distributed as part of its marketing package materials.
Ruba Asfahani, Communications Manager at the Centre, said; “This is a chance for anyone to be a part of what we stand for at the ABC. We are open to receiving any great idea that is different and eye-catching; and, we are giving people as much freedom as possible. They can use any medium of photography, sketching, painting, text, collage or anything else, as long as they abide by the simple guide lines.”
“As part of recent rebranding, we have our sights set on altogether five new designs for the postcards; with this competition open for two winners who will be chosen by the Executive Team here at the Arab British Centre. Whilst the other three designs have already been commissioned.”
The Centre postcards are always freely available to visitors at the ABC and always get displayed at many of the ABC’s partner venues and organisations, including: the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), the Barbican, the Ritzy cinema, Foyles bookstore and many more.
A valuable gift will also be presented to the top two winners and ten lucky runners-up. They will each get a copy of ‘A Future of a Promise’, the catalogue of the first pan-Arab Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, 2011.
All you need to do is follow the guidelines provided by the ABC.
The ABC Guidelines for Postcard Challenge (Deadline 31 May, 2014):
Focus on what the Arab British Centre represents as a charitable institution.
Think about how Arab culture is a big part of what we believe in, but this can be in any facet: music, visual art, food, film, literature, dance, etc.
The size of the postcard will be 15cm across by 10.5cm height, so don’t be overly detailed, it will get lost in the printing process!
Only send us a low-resolution version of the design for now, once we have selected the winners, we will get in touch for the high-resolution design.
You MUST incorporate our logo somewhere on the design! You can find this quite easily through Google but if you want different options, contact us!
Don’t forget, the Arab British Centre is a non-religious, non-political organisation, any design that doesn’t fit in with these ideals will not be considered.
All copyright of any images used in the design must belong to YOU. Please do not use images you have found online unless you have already got permission to use them. We will be checking!
Lastly, have fun with it! Use anything you like, but be creative! We are looking for something that is contemporary, eye-catching and timeless!
All applications and queries to be sent to: email@example.com or call on: +4420 7832 1310.
